Day 2: Dewesoft shares new high-end datalogger and embedded data acquisition system
Dewesoft

Dewesoft is at the expo presenting its new Obsidian high-end datalogger and embedded data acquisition system (DAQ). The Obsidian system serves as a standalone datalogger, real-time control system and signal-conditioning front end. It can handle these tasks independently or simultaneously.

“Automotive industry technology has changed rapidly in recent years, and we have been working very hard to lead the way with exciting new solutions. Automotive Testing Expo is a great way to present our latest advancements in data acquisition systems, sensors and software to the community of engineers and technicians working in the automotive industry,” explained Tanja Söder, back office manager at Dewesoft.

What’s more, Obsidian features high-performance multichannel signal amplifiers for voltage, current, IEPE, thermocouple, RTD, strain gauges and more.

The system’s capabilities include the ability to run unattended for months; it can be monitored and controlled remotely via ethernet, wi-fi, or a smartphone app, making it suitable for fleet applications and long-term vehicle testing.

“Obsidian opens up new possibilities compared to traditional DAQ systems that require a Windows computer to be integrated or connected externally. Because of its embedded ARM processor running DewesoftRT on Linux, it can operate unattended not just for hours but for days, weeks and even months,” added Söder.
“Several Obsidian models are available, including an extremely rugged one that can handle high shock and vibration, extreme heat and cold, and has IP67 protection against water, dust and smoke.”

Additionally, Dewesoft introduces the DC-CT current transducer, designed specifically for EV and HEV tests on electromotors, inverters and charging systems. The DC-CT offers the benefits of a zero-flux current transducer but with lower power consumption and a compact design.

Söder said: “Alternative powertrain testing is demanding faster and more accurate current measurements. Our DC-CT current transducer combines all the benefits of a zero-flux current transducer: wide measurement range, high bandwidth, excellent linearity, high accuracy and low-temperature drift, but with significantly lower power consumption.

“The DC-CT handles various motor, inverter and AC-DC charging station applications. Engineers use it to measure quiescent DC currents in idle mode and analyze PWM switching frequencies' MHz range harmonics. It’s great for testing driving cycles like WLTP for range determination of BEV, HEV, FCEV and PHEV vehicles, and so much more.”

Attendees can visit Booth 8514 to find out more about Dewesoft’s data acquisition instruments that record analog sensor data and digital information from CAN 2.0, CAN FD, FlexRay, GNSS, IMU sensors and video cameras. The applications span areas such as combustion, EV/HEV, noise testing, EMC chambers, durability testing, vehicle dynamics and ADAS.
