Day 2: Data acquisition systems on display at DTS
DTS
DTS is showcasing its SLICE6 in-dummy data acquisition systems (DAS), which “promise to revolutionize crash test setups by significantly reducing test preparation times and enhancing data quality and reliability”.
These improvements are especially crucial given the increasing demand for higher channel counts and the need to test multiple crash test dummies simultaneously, making time and cost efficiencies more valuable than ever.
On display at the expo is a range of SLICE6 integration kits, supporting a variety of anthropomorphic test devices (ATDs) such as THOR, Hybrid III, WorldSID, BioRID-II and Q-Series. These kits are designed for both full-service integrations and in-house retrofits, tailored to meet users' specific channel counts and configurations.
Automotive Testing Expo Europe is the ideal venue for DTS to engage with test engineers seeking the latest advancements in miniature data acquisition systems and sensors for dynamic testing.
Chad Ivan, DTS automotive applications manager, said, “Automotive Testing Expo Europe delivers DTS’s unique target audience of test engineers looking for the latest innovations in miniature data acquisition systems and sensors for dynamic testing.”
DTS is highlighting the benefits of converting to SLICE6 in-dummy DAS, which include the elimination of trailing cables that can tangle or alter test dynamics, a reduction in test setup time, and marked improvements in data quality and reliability.
The SLICE6 ATD in-dummy DAS integration kit provides solutions for the complete family of ATDs, including specialized pedestrian safety testing equipment such as aPLI legforms, Flex-PLI and pedestrian headforms.
“One of the key advantages of embedding the DAS within the dummy is the reduction of in-dummy cabling by up to 75%, which eliminates the mass and noise caused by long sensor cables. This streamlined setup replaces bulky trailing umbilical cables with a single exit cable, minimizing potential points of failure and ensuring accurate dummy positioning and target weight,” outlined Ivan.
The integration of DAS within the ATD also reduces preparation time, helping to keep test schedules on track. With fewer cables, data reliability is enhanced and proper dummy mass and center of gravity (CoG) are maintained. Additionally, the SLICE6 DAS includes a built-in tri-axial tilt sensor for easier dummy positioning and temperature logging, further improving test efficiency.
Data quality is improved by eliminating connectors and trailing cables that can alter test dynamics, resulting in fewer issues and less noise. DTS's SLICE6 integration kits can also be customized to support specific test requirements, including Euro NCAP, US NCAP and Global NCAP configurations.
“Whether purchasing new ATDs with SLICE6 in-dummy DAS or retrofitting existing ones, DTS ensures that in-dummy DAS solutions maintain the original ATD design, preserve the center of gravity and offer precision mass compensation. These systems are engineered for repeatability, reducing test setup time and complying with ISO 6487 and SAE J211 standards,” Ivan concluded.
Visitors can see firsthand at Booth 8402 how DTS's SLICE6 in-dummy DAS solutions are paving the way for advancements in automotive safety testing across US NACP, Euro NCAP, and Global NCAP standards.
