It’s not every day that an all-new crash testing center opens, but earlier this year, Calspan’s 58,000ft2 (5388m2) facility did just that. Visit the company’s booth at Automotive Testing Expo to learn all about this cutting-edge development.
The new lab features two separate halls with a Messring MicroTrack system that allows vehicles to be precisely guided without obstructing the cameras in the large photo pit underneath. Messring also supplied the propulsion system that ensures a precise impact point and test speed. Calspan uses Integrated Design Tools’ high-definition, high-speed cameras with the ability to capture 1,440p footage at 1,000 frames per second.
Calspan’s lab was chosen by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to run government testing in support of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP).
