Ian Smith

Ian oversees a team of engineers focused on conducting validation, development and certification testing on lithium-ion batteries, as well as applied research and development to improve battery safety, performance and life. Examples include use of dielectric fluids to directly cool battery cells, modules and packs to improve life and safety and development of lithium plating prognostics to refine fast charge profiles. His team also manages the Electrified Vehicle and Energy Storage Evaluation II (EVESE-II) Consortium. The work conducted in this consortium aims to develop an enhanced understanding of battery energy storage systems during normal and abnormal use, from the cell to final application.
